DEF™ Fashion Shows (Designers Educating Folks)

WHAT:

The opportunity to promote the works and talent of African-American Designers, while raising much needed education funds for young men and women of African Descent.

HOW:

Fashion showcases that feature talented Designers and stockpile fabulous Models.

WHO:

Organized and produced by Jesa Promotions, We have created "fashion productions" for The Interfaith Hospital Cruise (Brooklyn,NY), Club Rococo (NY,NY),Hillside Inn (Mt. Pocono, Pa), First Fridays,Portraits of Black Women & Latin American Event Planning Tradeshow & Expo(Charlotte, NC), to name a few. In an attempt to add a more charitable focus to our work, we created the idea of DEF FASHION SHOWS. PHANTASIA 2001 featuring NY Designer Bryan K. Osburn was the first show under the DEF title. The show was a first class event and featured a raffle with the winner taking home one of the Designer’s signature creations. Proceeds from the raffle purchases were used to start a fund for upcoming DEF FASHION SHOWS. PHANTASIA 2001 happened in conjunction with the SKY SHOW weekend spearheaded by radio host Tom Joyner.

THE DEF FASHION SHOW CONCEPT:

Having modeled professionally for over 16 years, Owner, Saba Kennedy-Washington says that she has "...always had a goal…..the promotion of African-American Designers. Their designs are fabulous and they could compete with and have worked for some of the most prestigious fashion houses. Unfortunately when they put their names on their own labels, people are no longer willing to pay what their designs are worth. This has got to change! And I want to be an instrument in that change."

Because we believe in the deliberate nature of "life’s cycle," we want our efforts to be two-fold. While educating people about the wonderful talents of the African influenced design world, we want to earmark proceeds from our shows to Education. With this in mind, the name DEF (Designers Educating Folks) was born. Our shows will not only help to create work for our featured Designers and Models they can also be created as fundraisers for your organizations.

So, every year we will select a group of designers to be showcased in major shows celebrating their talent. Then, a portion of the show’s proceeds will be donated to a non-profit that meets our criteria.

We will enlist the help of sponsors, models, interested designers, make-up artists, hairstylists and a whole array of talented folks to make these productions a celebration of creativity. Please join us in embracing the idea of DEF (Designers Educating Folks) so that we can make it happen!
